Monterey Oak is an excellent yard tree for central Texas, reaching 30 - 40 feet in size depending on growing conditions. For those of you wanting a quality, long lived tree that is also fast growing (a rare combination), Monterey Oak is a good choice. This tree starts off tall and pyramidal and finishes by spreading out to a rounded form. It is resistant to oak wilt and once established is quite drought tolerant. Monterey Oak prefers a medium to deep soil. It holds its leaves a long time being semi-evergreen in our climate.
